POGBA SAYS HE WOULD GET BETTER AFTER DEBUT

Arguably, the most talked about man in football this summer, Paul Pogba finally got his debut for Manchester United since returning to Old Trafford.

United took on Southampton in the second round of games at home, winning 2-0 courtesy of Ibrahimovic’s double.

The Frenchman was on the spot as everyone wanted him to justify every penny of the £89 million spent on him. His fitness for the game was under scrutiny ahead of the Friday night game, but he started alongside Marouane Fellaini in the middle, leaving Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, and Anthomy Martial in the front attack line.

His fitness for the game was under scrutiny ahead of the Friday night game, but he started alongside Marouane Fellaini in the middle, leaving Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, and Anthomy Martial in the front attack line.

Ahead of the game, coach Jose Mourinho said on Pogba: “I don’t know. Paul is a young guy and has been working hard for two weeks so I am not expecting him to have big difficulties but let’s see what happens and I have very good solutions on the bench to make changes if I want.” He didn’t make the changes as Pogba played the full game. It wasn’t that much of a great debut but the added an improvement to the squad. He definitely has the chance to cement his status at the Theatre of Dreams, like his countryman Louis Saha did many years back.

Pogba had a few poor first touches during the game, but was a bit imaginative as well, chipping a through ball to Mata during the first half. His offense wasn’t as great and Mourinho affirmed this when he said: “He is learning to play with us. I am very happy; there are obvious things he has to improve. One day he can play more offensively than he did today.”

“It was great. My debut and we won, so I’m very happy. I hope o carry on like this, getting better and better. I feel very good. My legs feel good, I can carry on,” Pogba said after the game.
