Georgia 0 - 3 France
Saturday 3rd September 2006
Tblisi, Georgia
Ok, so it was never likely to be one of the hardest games of their Group, but at the saem time, it was a necessary win for Louis Saha and his French compatriots.
Georgia were never going to trouble a new look French side, without the guile of Zidane, amongst others, and it wasn't long before Malouda had pushed them into the lead on 7 minutes.
Saha joined Thierry henry upfront, with Domenech signalling his intent to go for these two strikers as his main pairing. Overlooking Trezeguet and Wiltord, as well as Anelka, should mean Louis gets a good run in the team, and should establish himself if there are many more performances like this one.
Saha was always running, full of energy and gas, and with the extra pace that Trezeguet lacks.
It was Saha who finished the match as a contest, grabbing the second goal on just 20 minutes to secure the points for France.
Ribery jinked up the wing, cut it back to Saha, and Louis struck it sweetly from 15 metres out to send it flying into the top corner.
An own-goal completed the rout, and France look forward to meeting Italy on Wednesday.
