Marco Silva delighted with Everton’s 2-0 triumph over Chelsea

Everton manager Marco Silva has expressed his delight after the Toffees celebrated a rare league win over Chelsea. The Toffees had come into the game following a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United defeat and things appeared difficult during the first period where the Blues were truly dominant without finding the scoresheet.

However, after the break, the Mersey side outfit were by far the better team with a renewed aggression and this was rewarded with goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Following the game, Silva was pleased with the standout showing in the second period which ensured that the Toffees celebrated their first win against top-six opposition since January 2017.

He told Evertonfc.com: “In the second half we showed ourselves and were able to challenge and compete and win. We gave our fans what they deserved, they were behind us even in a tough first half. This game was really important for us to achieve three points to give our players the confidence we needed and to give the fans three points after our last game. I told our players at half-time, they had to do everything different to win the game. We had our plan and strategy to achieve the victory.”

Everton have certainly improved on the defensive performances since the 17-day break last month and they have kept clean sheets in three of the previous four league matches. Owing to this, they have closed the gap to seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers to just four points but they still have plenty of work to do to push for the potential Europa League spot.

Silva’s team have recently overcome the challenges presented by Liverpool and Chelsea with four points and they still have a couple of tough games against Arsenal and Manchester United at home before the campaign concludes. Everton return from the international break with an away game at West Ham United.
