McTominay heaps praise on Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba

Scott McTominay has heaped praise on the qualities of Manchester United teammate Paul Pogba and believes it is amazing to play alongside the France international. The Frenchman has endured a tough season with multiple ankle injuries but he is expected to be available for the season restart after the coronavirus shutdown.

With Pogba’s return, there is obviously more competition for places in the centre of the park and McTominay is looking forward to the challenge ahead, he told the club’s official website: “Obviously whenever you play with Paul he’s such a talented footballer and he’s such an amazing guy as well, so for me it helps me a lot. It’s important for whatever midfield partner you’re playing with. If you’re playing with just a single partner or playing with a two or three it’s important that you all click and all gel. Competition is healthy that’s what it’s all about but obviously playing with Paul is amazing.”

United lacked the creative presence of Pogba in the centre of the park during the first half of the season and that contributed to the average run of form. However, they were able to sort the concern in January with the purchase of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese was able to contribute three goals and four assists from nine outings before the season was brought to a halt because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Both Fernandes and Pogba could be paired up when the season resumes next month and that should be relishing to watch for the United fans. Meanwhile, McTominay may be restricted to a bench role when the campaign recommences. Nemanja Matic was in superb form in the holding midfield position before the shutdown and he could get the nod ahead of the Scotland international and Fred for the third midfield spot. Matic’s contract was recently extended until June 2021 with a clause and talks are already underway over an improved contract beyond that period.
