Derby County boss Rooney has been seriously linked with the vacant managerial job at Merseyside club Everton. Rooney is not a stranger to Everton having come through the academy at the club before making his bow as a professional footballer in the colours of the club. The English football icon also returned to the club for a second spell towards the end of his football career. Rooney was at Everton before he moved to D. C. United in the MLS (Major League Soccer).

On Rooney being linked with the managerial job at Goodison Park, former Everton striker Louis Saha said he’s ready for the role.

Rooney has impressed in his first managerial role at Derby County and he has kept the focus on the pitch despite the distractions off it. The Rams were slammed with two separate points deduction last year. Derby County were given a 12-point deduction for entering into administration at the start of this season before an additional nine-point deduction followed after the club breached EFL rules. Rooney has been able to lead his team off the foot of the table in the English Championship despite the two points deduction.

Everton are on the search for a new manager after Rafael Benitez was sacked on the back of the 2-1 away defeat against Norwich City last weekend. Club legend Duncan Ferguson has been placed in an interim capacity for the upcoming matches. Apart from Rooney, the likes of Frank Lampard and former manager Roberto Martinez have been linked with the job.
