Phil Neville, Ronny Johnsen, JesperBlomqvist, Dwight Yorke and Dion Dublin would also feature in the game against the Catalan legends. Eric Abidal, GhoerghePopescu, Julio Salinas, GaizkaMendieta, Miguel Angel Nadal would play for the Catalan side managed by Jose Mari Bakero.

Cole recently had a kidney transplant. He said his wife nagged him until he did the life-saving procedure. He promised to be at the game, encouraging the players. He helped launch the game at the club’s foundation street Reds Project.

The Legends vs. Legends matches have proved to be a success since Real Madrid’s visit in 2013 and the one against Bayern Munich in 2015. They combined to raise £1.8 million for the foundation.

Louis Saha and most of the players named in the legends squad played in Michael Carrick’s testimonial match at Old Trafford against an All Star XI. Over 69,000 fans were at the game which ended 2-2. The celebrant scored from 25 yards to send the crowd into jubilation mode. The money from the game is expected to go to the Michael Carrick Foundation.
