Paul Pogba’s deal is Man United longest transfer saga of the summer, and one of the longest in the current season.

Looking back there are other transfer that dragged on unending as well! Whilst Louis Saha’s move to Everton was an open secret for almost a month whilst the two teams negotiated terms to take him to Goodison Park, others seemed to take the whole summer…

Goodison Park

Before Manchester united signed Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham, it wasn’t an easy task. The club’s chairman Daniel Levy is known to be a difficult negotiator, giving the club a tough time but a deal was finally struck and the Bulgarian striker moved to Old Trafford.

United already had a host of world class strikers like Argentine Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha, despite his injuries. Sir Alex Ferguson wanted another as he wanted to retain the Champions League title they won in 2008. Spurs already accepted the bid of Man City but Ferguson was able to still get the star player.

Rio Ferdinand’s deal was another drawn-out deal. The former Leeds United player moved to United in a £30million deal in 2002. It was the highest fee paid for a defender until Davis Luiz’ deal.

Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Real Madrid in 2009 but the deal was already sure to happen a year earlier. Madrid chased the player heavily in 2008 and the Portuguese star couldn’t resist the move to his dream club. The club had to beg Ronaldo to remain for one more season before they released him for a world record fee.

The deal for Wayne Rooney also took some time before Everton allowed the deal to go through. After a brilliant campaign at Euro 2004, Rooney was the most coveted striker wanted by everyone. He eventually joined United on transfer deadline.
